The Democratic Party stands for people-oriented public policy... jobs, fiscal discipline, sensible foreign policy, national security, education, affordable health care, environmental protection, international cooperation and the participation of the public towards the goal of this country achieving its ultimate best.

The Lake County Democratic Party works towards these goals by helping democratic candidates, arranging events, assisting voters, providing information about issues and much more.

Perhaps at no time in our recent history is there more at stake than now. The 2008 election will bring a roster of outstanding democratic candidates for office at the local and national level. Each one is dedicated to the democratic values which provide strength for our community, state and nation. And each candidate is committed to public service and brings a wealth of insight and experience.

This organization is chaired by a dedicated group of citizens committed to upholding democratic values and doing their utmost to bring them to the table. And the backbone and strength of this organization is the volunteers who work tirelessly. Their ongoing efforts display the true essence of patriotism.

We welcome you to join us.
Sincerely,

State Sen. Susan Garrett: A state legislator's perspective on reform
I am committed to continue our quest for changing a system that begs for more accountability and transparency. But let's not lose sight of the goal: While our reform process has been characterized as a sprint to the finish, the way to accomplish real sustainable reform is to work together long enough to make sure we win the right race. It will take some more time to achieve the goal. It might also include some careful analysis and even some compromise. It will certainly take more than a few weeks.

What will GOP changes on Lake County board mean in 2010?
Four Democrats - Melinda Bush of Grayslake, Pat Carey of Grayslake, Diane Hewitt of Waukegan and Terry Wilke of Round Lake Beach - seized county board seats previously held by Republicans in the November 2008 election. That dramatically narrowed the GOP's long-standing majority, which had been 17-6. "No one would've ever thought we could win four seats last time," said Terry Link, of Waukegan. "People want to see drastic changes."
